Listen Up, Obama

Who said these wise words? Were these sentiments more likely uttered by Abraham Lincoln, or by his would-be protege, Barack Obama?

"You cannot help the poor by destroying the rich. You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong. You cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift. You cannot lift the wage earner up by pulling the wage payer down. You cannot further the brotherhood of man by inciting class hatred. You cannot build character and courage by taking away people's initiative and independence. You cannot help people permanently by doing for them what they could and should do for themselves."

I think we all know the answer. Obama is not thinking in Lincolnian terms. But he most certainly SHOULD. Obama will get it right if he changes direction and takes to heart the words of our sixteenth president. Abraham Lincoln knew better than to destroy the
initiative and independence of the people of this great country, by instituting an array of massive big government programs full of unaffordable lollipops designed to do for them what they could and should do for themselves.

With companies taking government money then throwing themselves big parties (though pre-planned), giving big bonuses and the like; it just doesn't sit well with Joe public.

That said, since when as Capitalists do the people get to decide exactly how much someone should be paid to do a job, even if they do it badly? It is time to pick a side; capitalism or socialism? The truth is we've been moving stealthy along [the socialist] that very course for past 6 decades now.

We need to remember this current economic conundrum didn't start in January, but rather the cumulation of years of bad decisions and yes greed remained unchecked. However I don't believe we can spend or tax cut our way out of it. I believe like anything else patience and time is the only requirement.

Yes, in the meantime companies will fail, they will file bankruptcy, some may regroup and survive but we need to get beyond the idea that some companies are "too big to fail."

Just my two cents...Keep up the good work.

And now, Obama has fired the CEO of GM...not that the man didn't need to go, it's just that he should have gone on his own accord, NOT by order of the President!

Destroying America, one CEO at a time. It's absolutely insanity!!!

What makes anyone think that Washington can make the right decisions to run a corporation? I can't think of anything the government has ever run efficiently.
what they can do is prop up an already inefficient company indefinitely by looting money from the private sector via taxation and handing it over to these corporations. That's how you create an artificial economy doomed to implode.
